Trout

Lake Henry received another load of trout first week in Nov. Anglers are having success using little cleos, castmasters, roostertails, and power bait. Minnows under bobber also produced fish.

Crappie

Crappie are being caught over brushpiles on minnows or jigs in about 15-20 feet below surface. Also, fish being taken off deep water rocky areas.

Water level is 2.59 feet above normal, discharge = 7 cfs, water temperature = 53. October 2009 sampling showed low numbers of adult crappie, fair numbers of yearling and young of the year crappie. Improvement was observed in walleye numbers as the 2008 year class survived well and grew well, most of the 2008 year class were around 15 inches in length. Channel catfish continued to be outstanding with lots of 1.5-3 lb fish. White bass numbers were high, most fish were 11-12 inches long. Wiper numbers continued to decline, but were still fairly good, most fish sampled ranged from 16-20 inches long. Few sauger were sampled, but the ones that were collected were large some over 20 inches in length. Smallmouth bass stocked June 11. 3.5 million walleye and 400,000 sauger fry stocked into Clinton this spring. Brushpiles placed into Clinton August 11 and 12, 2008. Fish those points and humps, twisters and jigs, fish are hungry, eating shad like crazy! Netting numbers looked really good up by Old Town.

Tube jigs on the brush even some of those shallow piles are holding fish, working the shad over shallow. Saw some really nice fish in Rock Creek.

Finished netting on last Friday, I'll put some numbers up shortly. Click on Perry Reservoir above the fishing report to look at new Netting Pictures! I'll have more by the end of the week. Feeders have been taken out for the winter. Reservoir temperature, 54 degrees. Zebra mussels were confirmed on 10-9-07, mussels are spawning now soon so make sure you clean, drain and dry your boat after leaving Perry. Now that the water is about a foot over pool look at the rocks, zebra mussels all over.

The lake elevation is 5 feet above pool level and the release rate is 2500 cfs.

Trout season is here at Willow Lake! A trout permit is needed to fish at Willow Lake, which is located in the Southeast corner of the Tuttle Creek River Pond area. Rainbow trout are periodically stocked and the lake has received 5,250 fish so far. Anyone under 16 years of age with a properly licensed adult can harvest up to 2 trout without a trout permit

Channel catfish numbers and size were fairly good. Juvenile crappie were sampled, indicated some spawning by adults stocked last fall had occurred. Douglas State Fishing Lake re-opened to public fishing January 3, 2009; after being closed about 3 years for lake renovation.

This is a generic report covering the population status but will be updated when information is available. This small 24 acre lake is similar to pond fishing. Catch and release of largemouth bass and harvest of nice bluegill. The lake's channel catfish are protected by a 15 inch minimum length limit.

This is a generic report that covers a forecast for the fishing season and is updated periodically when information is available. Pott. # 2 is noted for family outings, scenic views, catch and release bass fishing, harvest of small crappie and channel catfishing. The channel cat population is maintained with frequent stockings of 12+ inch fish from March through September. The lake has received six stockings of catfish this year. The feeders have been pulled for the winter.

This is a generic report for the lake and relates to the fishing season. Located north of Topeka, Shawnee State Fishing Lake is the site of good catch and release largemouth bass fishing. The lake is also noted for channel catfish harvest since the lake receives frequent stockings of harvestable sized catfish from March through September. Perry Reservoir has zebra mussels and with Shawnee State Lake being close it is at high risk. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies.

Bass are covered by an 18 inch minimum. The lake does not have good numbers of bass, but the best areas are off the dam and rocky piers.

This is a generic fishing report that relates to the 2009 fishing season and will be periodically updated. Centralia Lake, a 400 acre lake, is noted for good channel cat, white bass and crappie fishing. The lake facilities include multiple ramps, picnic tables, plenty of camping pads and many sites with electricity. Centralia is an enrollee in the CFAP program. A City permit is not required for fishing visits. Perry Reservoir has zebra mussels and with Centralia Lake being close it is at high risk. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies.

This is a generic fishing report for the 2009 season. This scenic lake is noted for largemouth bass fishing along the abundant shoreline weed beds during the spring and summer. Smallmouth bass are also available along the dam and rocky shoreline. Saugeye and crappie can also be taken at this 200 acre lake located in the flint hills. Since this lake is not part of the CFAP Program, annual or day use permits are available at the boat ramp bait house on the northeast shore. Expect to have your boat inspected for invasive species at the ramp. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies.

The lake has a good population. Wipers can be taken on live bait and shad imitation lures. The daily creel for wipers is 2.

This is a generic fishing report for the 2009 fishing season. Fishing access to the Jeffrey Energy Center will be closed to public, whenever Homeland Security reaches Orange Level status. Public access will be reinstated upon return to yellow status. Anglers check into the facility at the JEC Guard House located north of St. Mary's, then west off K-63 Hi-way. The Jeffrey Energy Center allows 30 anglers to fish at any one time. Perry Reservoir has zebra mussels and with Jefferies Lakes being close it is at high risk. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies. If the inlet is flowing, then good fishing can be found there. Lake is low, so please use caution when launching boats.

In addition to a state fishing license, a Johnson County fishing permit is required. Johnson County fishing permits are available through Johnson County Parks and Recreation District and other select vendors.

The lake has a good population of bluegill. They are taken lake-wide using worms or small artificial lures.

The lake has a large population that contains all sizes of fish, but the fishery is dominated by 12 to 15 inch bass. The lake has a 13-18 slot length limit. Release the bass within the length limit.

This is a generic report for the fishing season and is updated periodically. This small 49 acre lake is located in northeast Pott. County. The fishing conditions are very similar to that of a large farm pond. The lake is noted for good catch and release largemouth bass fishing due to the abundance of the species. Bass 13 to 18 inches long are protected.

Attention: Wipers were stocked during June 2006. An 18 inch minimum length limit and 2/day creel limit is in effect for wipers. Be sure to check the toothpatches located on the fishs' "tongue" to distinguish wipers from white bass. Saugeye

Rocky Ford Dam produces saugeye throughout the fishing season. These fish are taken on crankbaits, jigs, worms and other live baits. There is a statewide 15 inch minimum length limit on saugeye.

Rocky Ford , a river fishery, is located just south of the Tuttle Creek Dam on the Big Blue River. Anglers have the opportunity to harvest fishes generally associated with moving water. Saugeye, white bass, the catfishes, drum, crappie and carp can be harvested. Angler access and success is affected by release rates from the nearby Tuttle Creek Reservoir. Currently the release rates are 800 cfs, so fish can be found on both sides of the walk-way.
